Brooklyn Art Cave is pleased to bring TOMORROW’S VIG to our space, a bold exploration of storytelling and visual expression that challenges the narratives we tell ourselves about the world around us.
Brooklynite and award-winning writer, Martin Eaton, presents a curated selection of his forthcoming coffee table book of illustrated short stories, dissecting the collisions of personal truth and external reality. Drawing from his critically recognized body of work, this immersive exhibition presents art and word through larger-than-life pieces that consume the viewer and simultaneously unbalances their gallery stroller routine with the nostalgic pull of childhood bedtime story listener.
It's a distinctive approach to genre-spanning storytelling offering an unconventional, visceral experience that is almost never seen in the modern gallery space where singular mediums reign supreme. Eaton uses this interplay of text and visual artistry to take us on a journey through mental illness, romantic betrayal, public violation, childhood sexual discovery and familial reconciliation. A riveting journey, each piece drawing the viewer forward through flirtatious anticipation, emotional turbulence and gripping unpredictability.
Brooklyn Art Cave is pleased to welcome this exhibition and its nine distinct narratives, their shifting styles and tones, gifted by an artist who refuses to be neatly categorized. It’s an experience that balances playfulness with depth, immersing viewers in narratives that shift their perspectives and linger long after the final piece is seen.
Of the process, Eaton remarks:
"Happiness in all shapes always comes with a price. That's the Vig. And no one escapes it. You either find a way to emotionally pay... or it crushes you.”
